STJ’s Mercy Regional Foundation Provides i-STAT Equipment
Joplin, Mo. - St. John’s Mercy Regional Foundation representatives recently presented an i-STAT Handheld Blood Analyzer to St. John’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and Respiratory Therapy (RT) departments. The blood analyzer provides time-sensitive test results at the patient’s side.
“Having an i-STAT in CCU saves the therapist time and provides more timely results on lab tests taken on our patients,” according to St. John’s Cardiopulmonary Manager Lori Schiska. “Before we received the i-STAT for CCU, the therapist had to leave the unit to go borrow an i-STAT from another area when it was needed. This resulted in delays in getting time-sensitive test results into the hands of the physicians and other caregivers. Our patients benefit from having this available at the bedside in CCU.”
The i-STAT delivers lab-accurate testing for blood gases, electrolytes, chemistries, coagulation, hematology, glucose and cardiac markers.
The equipment was purchased through a grant provided by St. John’s Mercy Regional Foundation. Funding for Foundation projects is made possible by donations from individuals, businesses, special events and bequests in the wills of four-state area residents.
